At Lime Tree Primary School in Merstham, children have been celebrating their success in writing, after the school opened its own Writing Wall of Fame. The feature is updated fortnightly and acts as a showcase for the best written work produced in the school, to allow outstanding work by each class’s chosen Writing Superstar to be displayed beyond the classroom to the wider school and visitors.
“Having the children’s best work on display has given them a purpose for their writing. Children and parents often stop by the wall and appreciate the incredible work that has been created by the young writers,” said writing lead Emma Hutchinson, who came up with the idea. “Every other week we have an assembly where the Writing Superstars are called up in front of the rest of the school to receive their certificates. The children get really excited when they see their peers being celebrated and it creates such an exciting buzz around writing.” Lime Tree, which was opened by the GLF Schools multi-academy trust in 2013, moved from temporary accommodation to its new purpose-built facilities on Battlebridge Lane at the start of this year, and the Writing Wall of Fame is a welcome addition to the new learning environment. “Children, and teachers, have worked incredibly hard to develop writing at Lime Tree and the Writing Wall of Fame has helped to motivate them even more,” added Mrs Hutchinson. “It also allows anyone coming into the school to see the great work that is being done by the teachers in the classrooms, so it’s something of which everyone at the school is very proud.”
