Footballers from Glyn School in Ewell have made it through to the finals of the English Schools’ Football Association U16B National Cup Tournament for the second year running. The Glyn players triumphed 5-2 over their Glenmoor and Winton adversaries at an away match which saw the Surrey team make the two-hour journey south to Bournemouth.

There was triple cause for celebration at one Newcastle secondary school when two students won their age categories, and a third placed runner up, in a national public speaking contest. The trio from Sacred Heart Catholic High School, Fenham, showed off their oratory skills in the 2023 Catenian Province 5 Public Speaking Competition, which took place at English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form in Hartlepool. A West Norfolk secondary school has been recognised for its exceptional music provision, making it through to the final of a prestigious national competition. Springwood High School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, was one of just seven schools from across the country to be shortlisted in the Outstanding School Music Department category of the 2023 Music & Drama Education Awards. Students from Aureus School had the opportunity to display their talents to the community when they staged an evening of entertainment at the Cornerstone Art Centre in Didcot. Budding dancers, actors, musicians and artists came together to participate in the second annual Aureus School Creative and Expressive Arts Showcase. Organisers of a free community music event in West Norfolk are asking for votes in an online competition to help raise money for their week-long festival. Following the success of the inaugural Community Music Week last year, the West Norfolk Academies Trust will be staging it again this summer – and the event has been shortlisted in a competition to win £1,000 towards costs. Pupils at a West Norfolk school welcomed a special VIP visitor for a guided tour as the Borough Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk arrived at the gates. Cllr Lesley Bambridge, who has been the mayor for the last year, was invited to Heacham Infant and Nursery School to meet staff and children, and to answer questions about her historic role as the civic figurehead of the borough council. Caring youngsters at a Newcastle primary school have been spending a whole month raising money for a variety of charitable causes. The children at St Catherine’s, a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, have been continuing an annual Lent tradition that the school has followed for over a decade. A talented young dancer from King’s Lynn has won a place to compete for the UK in two prestigious international competitions. Lilly Sargeant, a Year 11 student at Springwood High School, was chosen to represent the country in hip hop and street dance at the International Dance Organisation’s (IDO) European and World Championships. The 15-year-old, who joined Alison’s Street Dance Club at the age of five, takes part in regular competitions, dancing solo as well as with a partner and a group, and it was her success in the events that led to her selection for the UK team. Five West Norfolk politicians were put through their paces when they took part in a hustings at a King’s Lynn secondary school. Springwood High School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, hosted a Sixth Form Question Time, with 250 Year 13 students taking part. |
