A big-hearted pupil at an Ashington school has been creating colourful bracelets to raise money for the Royal Victoria Infirmary’s Tiny Lives charity. When her mum had her baby brother in the Newcastle hospital last Christmas, Rubyrae Lisle was inspired to begin designing and creating bracelets to boost funds. When her 11th birthday came round in April, she decided to fundraise to mark it.

A Surrey student has been celebrating after becoming a record-breaking Under-17 96kg British Weightlifting Champion. Ollie Jackson, in Year 12 at Glyn School in Ewell, set two new British records at the the British Weightlifting 2023 England Age Group Championships, achieving a 107kg snatch and 242kg total to win his age category and take home the medal. Two intrepid Wisbech students braved the cold mud to take part in a special 5k run to raise both awareness and funds for a cancer charity close to their hearts. The event was a major milestone for one of them, as this time last year Gaby Maurice was facing a tough fight of her own after being diagnosed with cancer in November 2021. She faced major surgery and a variety of treatments at different hospitals and is now back in the classroom at Thomas Clarkson Academy. A West Norfolk primary school is a ‘joyful and inspiring place to learn,’ with polite, kind pupils who are happy and safe, says a recent Ofsted report. Clenchwarton Primary School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, continues to be a good school, but ‘could be judged as Outstanding’ on its next graded inspection, says the report. Young musicians filled a West Norfolk school with the sounds of spring when they took part in the first May Concert at Springwood High School. Around 200 pupils were showcasing their accomplishment in the event on May 4, and it went so well that the concert will now be a staple of the King’s Lynn school’s music calendar for future years. A burning ambition to share a sporting passion with others has seen a student at Thomas Clarkson Academy achieve a coaching qualification after winning a regional gold in gymnastics. The horror of the Holocaust was brought to life for a group of West Norfolk students who visited the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland. Sixth form members from Springwood High School, a member of West Norfolk Academies Trust, made the trip as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project. All four students returned determined to ensure the experiences of the 1.1 million people who perished at the camp will not be forgotten. |
