Around 100 young musicians from across West Norfolk met to showcase their talents at an afternoon performance where they played together for the first time.

A champion boxer gave tips on resilience and discipline when he spoke to Wisbech students at an end-of-term awards night. Jordan Gill, former European and Commonwealth featherweight champion told the Thomas Clarkson Academy pupils that education is important along with following a plan to future success. Budding Bear Grylls at an Ashington school have been honing their survival skills, building shelters, lighting fires, and even enduring their very own ‘Bush Tucker Trial’. The intrepid youngsters from St Aidan’s took part in a 24-hour bushcraft and survival skills workshop at the school, which was run by external events company The Outdoors People. A former shop worker turned carer has won an award for outstanding performance in her new role at a family-run care company. Julie Hughes joined the Heacham branch of Extra Hands just over two years ago, having previously worked nights for a supermarket and briefly taking a job at a different care firm. Two Marshland High School students enjoyed an ‘out-of-this-world’ experience when they spent a week at Space Camp in the USA, meeting NASA scientists and astronauts, and even designing their own rockets. The Year 9 duo were picked from hundreds of applicants from across the globe to take part in the Space Camp programme, which has graduated more than a million cadets since it began in the 1970s. |
