A West Norfolk charity celebrating 25 years of working with the community has launched a special book to mark the milestone, with contributions written by residents and supporters. West Norfolk Deaf Association’s Silver Stories From No8 is a collection of 32 stories from writers of all ages who were awarded a place in the book by author and editor Daisy Line.

A West Norfolk school has been presented with a prestigious award after being recognised by a group of young people it helps. Heacham Junior School has received a Young Carer Friendly Tick in Education which highlights its commitment to working with the students who also have a caring role outside of school. Some of West Norfolk’s youngest constituents had the opportunity to question their MP when he paid a visit to their school. James Wild, who has been the Conservative Member of Parliament for North West Norfolk since 2019, toured Walpole Cross Keys Primary School, visiting the children in their classes and meeting staff members. Spending Christmas in a cramped rowing boat crossing the Atlantic with not much sleep might not sound like fun - but it did sound inspirational to a group of Wisbech students. Two intrepid rowers visited the Thomas Clarkson Academy to raise awareness of their charity 3,000-mile journey as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge which is due to start on December 23. Care work proved to be the perfect career choice for a Norfolk woman who has recently celebrated ten years with Extra Hands. Although she briefly tried her hand at labouring and working as a chef, Donna Eastaugh found her true calling when she took up care work, and has now clocked up 25 years in the industry – with over a decade at the Norfolk home-care provider. A life-long carer has taken up a new role at the Norfolk home-care company she first joined as a school leaver. Dana Frost had a brief break from working at family-run Extra Hands before returning three years ago. Earlier this year she moved to the Rapid Response Team at the company’s Heacham Branch, working alongside colleagues Nina Stephen and Tamara Proctor to provide support for service-users and carers alike. A carer with more than 30 years’ experience in the industry has put retirement on hold to continue in the job she loves. Sue Barnard, who works at family run Norfolk care provider Extra Hands, was previously employed by Age Concern, and has also worked at a variety of residential care homes over the past three decades. |
