West Norfolk supermarket helps local schools

A new project at a West Norfolk school to help students with additional needs has been helped by a donation from a local supermarket.

​The Special Education Needs (SEN) development project will help students with an array of lifeskills at St Clement’s High School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, and Morrisons has given a welcome boost to the initiative.

“I was first made aware of the request to school staff for donations as my daughter is a teaching assistant in SEN at St Clement’s. She mentioned it to me and asked if we had any of the items to donate,” said Morrisons Community Champion Tania Hanks.

“As a Community Champion it was my first link with St Clement’s and I very much look forward to working with them in the future. Morrisons believe in giving back to local schools and the wider community as well as supporting both national and local charities,” she added.

And the store came-up trumps with a donation including buckets, plates, bowls, tea towels, cooking utensils, dusters, lab-style disposable coats, hand gardening tools and an Aloe Vera plant to brighten-up the area and so students could learn about plants and natural healing properties.

“We had asked staff if they could make any donations and then Tania got in touch to say that Morrison’s would be able to help, which was fantastic news. We are working hard to create a new facility which will be a base for the delivery of the personal delivery programme and this donation will make a huge difference,” said Carrie Chappell, special needs coordinator for the trust.

The school is looking to bolster its SEN provision by creating a space where pupils can learn a range of skills to support them into adulthood.
