Ward Gethin Archer emerge victorious in the Vancouver Quarter’s Pancake Racing Challenge 20169/2/2016 Six business teams from around King’s Lynn battled it out to be crowned the best flippers in town on Tuesday 9 February. The annual event was the first Vancouver Quarter Business Challenge of 2016 and drew a large crowd in St Dominic’s square after the flipping action began at 1pm.
The team from Ward Gethin Archer, last year’s runners up, narrowly beat a determined team from Primark in the grand final to take the crown – or in this case, an engraved frying pan. Financial advisors Ring Associates and west Norfolk radio station KLFM finished third and fourth respectively. Wilkinson and Your Local Paper completed the list of participants and also competed in a “wooden spoon” competition, which was won by Your Local Paper. “A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Pancake Racing challenge,” said Vancouver Quarter marketing and events assistant David Blackmore. “It was a brilliant event – even the sun came out – and I was pleased to see so many members of the public line the course to cheer on the teams.” Abbie Panks, Vancouver Quarter centre manager, added: “We started the business challenges in 2013 as a way for, not only businesses in the Vancouver quarter to get out and meet other retailers, but also other businesses in the wider town. As a retailer it’s often difficult to get out during the day, so these challenges offer light relief as well as the chance to talk to one another.” Both finalists also clocked the quickest times over with 48 seconds. Ring Associates, based on the Tuesday Market Place, also clocked an impressive time of 49 seconds during the course of the challenge. The businesses will compete in their next challenge – egg and spoon racing – in March. This will be followed by a beat the goalie competition in June and a mystery challenge in September. The team with the most points after these four challenges will be crowned Vancouver Quarter Business Challenge 2016 champions and a donation will be made to a charity of the winner’s choice.
