Waiting list for popular Cordwalles Junior School

Rising numbers at a school praised by Ofsted.

Parents are so keen to have their children enrolled at one Camberley junior school that there is now a waiting list of potential pupils.

The popularity of Cordwalles Junior School is continuing to grow and since 2016 the number of pupils admitted into Year 3 has risen by 25 per cent and now it is oversubscribed for the September intake later this year.

Executive Headteacher Claire-Louise West said everyone involved with the school was delighted that it was proving to be such a popular first choice for parents in the area.

“We are immensely proud of all our pupils’ achievements; the increased pupil numbers are a recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff and parents in supporting the school’s journey to improve. I would also like to extend a huge thank-you for all the support we have received in making our new children and their families so welcome this year,” she said.

An Ofsted report published last year said the school was ‘good’ in all areas and inspectors made particular note of the high aspirations the school leadership team has for the achievement of pupils.

“As a result of these expectations, pupils are making good progress across the curriculum,” the report said.

“The staff strive to ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential and are well placed for their next steps in education,” it added.

The school is a member of the multi-academy GLF Trust which, said the Ofsted report has “worked alongside the headteacher to analyse quickly the school’s strengths and weaknesses. With this collaborative approach they have supported the development of appropriate plans to make the right improvements.”

Pupils at the school have recently taken part in a number of events, from attending an author’s book launch to enjoying African drumming and taking part in a freestyle football session.
