The young singers of Springfield Primary in Sunbury on Thames can now add Croydon’s Fairfield Hall to their impressive list of live venues after wowing the crowds there at the recent GLF Schools music festival. The Surrey-based GLF multi-academy trust runs over a dozen schools across the south east, and its finest musical talents came together for the concert.
In recent times Springfield’s singers have performed at the O2 Arena and Royal Albert Hall, and they were more than happy to share the stage with other young singers from across the GLF group as they sang songs including Take That’s Shine, Pompeii by Bastille and Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours. “We now have more than 50 children from across three years groups coming to regular choir practices, and they’d been rehearsing for this concert since February,” said teacher Hannah Gregson, the choir’s leader. “We’ve sung at some great places before but the children were still really excited to be signing somewhere new alongside all the other GLF schools. It means so much to them to represent their school like this, and to show how far they’ve come as a group." With such an impressive record behind them, the school’s choir is sure to flourish further - they will be singing at Wembley Arena again next year - and Ms Gregson said their latest performance had only fuelled their future ambitions. “We’ve had such wonderful feedback – family members told us they had tears in their eyes, they were so proud of the performance, and people have said how wonderful it is watching the children blossom because of the confidence that comes through performance,” she said. “We’ve really raised the profile of singing and music in the school, and can’t wait to do it again.”
