![]() There were plenty of smiles at Meridian High School today when students collected their GCSE results. Meridian's top achievers included Tommy-Lee Barrett with two 9s, three 7s, one 6, and a Distinction, and Kacey Blundell with one 9, one 8, seven 7s and two 6s. Tommy is now going to study A levels in English literature, politics, history and psychology. He said: "I am really proud of what I have achieved today. My ultimate aim is to become a psychologist."
Kacey, who is continuing her education at Coombe Wood Sixth Form taking A Levels in maths, art and economics, added: "I feel proud of my achievements. I was encouraged by the teachers at Meridian to do my best." Head Boy Zachary Graham was delighted with his two 8s, five 7s, one 6 and one 5, and Head Girl Mariam Kamara was celebrating her results that included five 8s and three 7s. Zachary, who is off to Riddlesdown Sixth form to study A levels business, accounting and drama, said: "I am really proud of passing my Spanish as I found this the most challenging. I am still undecided on my future after compulsory education; it will either be drama school or university. Meridian is a fantastic school and I have enjoyed my time here." Mariam, who will study psychology, biology and chemistry at A Level and hopes to become a surgeon, added: "I did a lot better than I expected. I am really grateful for my results. Meridian helped me boost my grades as I was struggling in Year 9." Amy Anderson, Head of School, said: "Once again we are incredibly proud of all of our Meridian students and their individual successes this year. "There is no doubt that young people across the country faced so many challenges and as always, our students have been able to demonstrate how they embody our core values of resilience and ambition. "It is important to thank our teachers who have worked relentlessly to ensure the whole process was given the rigour it deserved." Claire Copeland, Executive Headteacher, added: "The achievements of our young people reflect the rapid improvement journey we have been on and we continue to drive forward to ensure Meridian becomes the centre of excellence our community deserves." Other Meridian students pleased with their results included Emilia Mystowska (one 9, one 8, six 7s), Josh Bird (five 8s, one 7 and one 6), Shannon Lamey (two 8s, five 7s), Lily Annan (two 8s, six 7s), Michelle Azeez (one 8, seven 7s), and Amy Rowie (two 7s, four 6s, one 5)
