Sixth formers are celebrating after they achieved what their headteacher described as the school’s ‘best ever’ A level results. The students at Thomas More Catholic High School in North Shields, which is a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, achieved top grades across all subjects, with 48 per cent of grades A* or A and 90 per cent A* to C. The average grade was a B, and an impressive 31 students attained three or more A or A* grades – almost a quarter of the year group.
Headteacher David Watson said: “We are delighted with our best ever results in what has been the most challenging time for our students over the past two years. Their results are a testament to the students’ tremendous efforts, alongwith the skill and dedication of our teachers and pastoral staff. “We have been so impressed with how our students have responded to the challenges over the past two years, and how determined they have been to do as well as they possibly could. They fully deserve all of the success they have achieved.” The high achievers have secured places at universities including Oxford, Cambridge and members of the Russell Group, as well as moving onto employment and higher level apprenticeships. Head of Sixth Form Donna Hallam added: “We are immensely proud of our students this year. Their hard work has resulted in a fantastic set of results and most have secured their first choice of university or desired apprenticeship placement. They can all look forward to a very bright future!”
