Marshland High students fundraise for Children in Need

Students at Marshland High school helped to raise money for Children in Need by organising a cake sale and a 'guess the number of sweets in a jar' competition.

Members of the student council in years 7-10 set up the bake sale and also spent time going round tutor groups to promote the fundraising activities.

The school, near Wisbech, which is part of West Norfolk Academies Trust, had raised around £306 by early Friday afternoon for the BBC’s annual fundraising appeal.

The winner of the sweet jar was Year 11 student Kenzie, who guessed 286 - just one more than the correct total.

Mrs Sarah Swinburn, assistant head teacher KS3, said: ”We love to show our support and help Children in Need each year as their mission to help ensure every child in the UK is safe, happy, secure and has the opportunities they need to reach their potential is something we truly believe in at Marshland High school.

“They fund local charities and projects who help remove the barriers that are facing children and young people, so that they can thrive. 

“It is a fantastic charity and we are glad we can help out in some way by raising money here at Marshland.”

BBC Children in Need launched its first major appeal in 1980 and has since raised more than £1 billion.

The money raised is used to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
