Gladiators star Hunter has revealed that while he was keen to impress viewers on the hit 90s tv show with his athletic performance, some of his fellow contestants were more interested in being outstanding in less subtle ways. Speaking to the GladPod podcast, Hunter – aka James Crossley – says it is only in hindsight that he realised how little their costumes left to the imagination. “You look back at it now and you can see how much for example how your genitalia stuck out,” he said. “It wouldn’t have crossed my mind! Warrior used to say ‘you have to put potatoes down there!’. I was so focused on the events I didn’t think about people look at me but he was obsessed with it!”
The spandex clad heroes of Gladiators were household names throughout the 90s, and the Gladpod, hosted by Diane Youdale, known to legions of fans as Gladiator Jet, and journalist David Blackmore, gives fans access to the show’s biggest stars to hear their tales of life before, during and after the show.
