James Crossley was one of the most recognisable faces on British television in the 1990s, as part of the spandex-clad superstar line-up of one of the country’s favourite tv shows. But as he told the new GladPod podcast, had things turned out differently, the Hunter we know and love may never have been! “I was at school and we were going to London Weekend Television in a car to meet all the other Gladiators who were having a meeting, and they said ‘we’re going to call you Trident’,” he said.
“A few kids at school had got a murmur of what was going on and that I had signed as Trident and I’d even made up a Trident sign, then in the car they said ‘we’ve got a Trojan, maybe it’s a bit close, so instead we’ll go with Hunter’ and that’s how they introduced me to everyone, as Hunter.” Gladiator Hunter was speaking to the GladPod, hosted by Gladiator Jet, also known as Diane Youdale, and journalist David Blackmore. Together they chat to some of the show’s biggest stars and learn about life behind the scenes and beyond one of the most popular programmes in the country. To hear more about how Gladiator Hunter was nearly thrown off the show, his thoughts on the gladiators’ skimpy costumes, and how he turned himself into a monkey through meditation, search and subscribe to the GladPod through your usual podcast suppliers.
