Pupils are at the heart of every action at a Surrey school where ‘warm relationships permeate all aspects of school life,’ says a recent Ofsted report. Frogmore Junior School, a member of the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust, remains a good school after the inspection visit in March.
“Pupils feel safe and know that staff always listen to them. Their voice matters. Staff put their pupils at the heart of every action they take. There are high expectations for all pupils, including those with special needs and/or disabilities (SEND),” says the report, published this week (1). With 231 children on the roll, the school has introduced an ‘ambitious trust-wide curriculum’ which identifies knowledge and skills for each subject well. Teachers know exactly what to teach and when to teach it,’ noted the inspector. “We are delighted that our school has again been rated ‘good’ in its most recent inspection. Thank you to everyone within the school community who has supported us and worked extremely hard to ensure the children are at the centre of every decision we make, so they can reach their full potential and the school continues to flourish,” said Headteacher Emma Rodziewicz. The school identifies any additional needs effectively and there are precise and useful targets for pupils with SEND who are ‘flourishing and learning well.’ Reading is a priority across the school and texts are carefully chosen to reflect its commitment to diversity and inclusion. There is a well-established phonics system which helps pupils who join with an early stage of reading. The school’s work on personal development is highlighted as a strength by the report. “Pupils debate moral and ethical issues regularly. Pupils respect the views of others, politely disagreeing if need be. Pupils celebrated difference. They run assemblies about additional needs found in the school, such as autism and physical disabilities,” it says. The children work hard, understand rights and responsibilities and the school has a culture of respect running through it.
