Excellent outcomes for Smithdon students

There were celebrations all round when Year 11 students received their exam results at Smithdon High School, which reported ‘excellent outcomes’ for all subjects.

Retiring headteacher John Hirst commented: “Despite the difficult times this cohort has had, which led to the disruption of their education, they responded positively and can enjoy their successful GCSE results. The good careers guidance students received has meant that they are able to progress to their chosen next stages.”

Smithdon, which is a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust, saw its students achieve across the board, including in EBACC subjects, where 19 top grades were attained in history, geography and modern foreign languages alone.

Students who particularly excelled included Nathan Croasdale, with seven Grade 9s, two 7s and a Distinction*, plus an A in further maths, and Daniel Cook, who matched Nathan’s grades, along with an additional Grade 5.

Both students move onto the Trust’s Sixth Form at Springwood.

Smithdon’s Chair of Governors, Andy Gee, had extra reason to be proud of this year’s graduates, as his daughter, Amelia  was among the school’s high achievers, attaining two Grade 9s, an 8, four Grade 7s, a 5 and a Distinction*, as well as a B in further maths.

Among other students celebrating successes in their chosen subjects were Lindsey Guardado, with a Distinction* in health and social care, and Lucy Whitmore, whose Grade 9 in Art wins her a place on a Level 3 extended diploma in creative practice.

New headteacher Amanda Gibbons said: “We are all so proud of the way the students have coped with the additional pressures faced during their GCSE years to achieve the results they have today.

“All the staff and I wish them warm congratulations and every success, as they move onto their new destinations and towards their future careers.”
