Staff at a Salfords Primary School have had their hard work publicly recognised by the prestigious Education Business Awards. Salfords, a member of the multi-academy Trust GLF Schools, was alone in the Surrey region to make it onto the shortlist of finalists, and was rewarded with a commendation in the Outstanding Progress Award (primary). The category rewards ‘outstanding progress in the management of facilities, finances and resources’ as well as an increase in educational performance. Salfords was transformed from an Ofsted rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ in 2018, to Good with Outstanding features in February.
“It was an amazing experience. An absolute honour,” said co-headteacher Claire Regnard, who attended the ceremony with co-headteacher Carrie Christer and GLF Education Partner Natalie Broad. “We felt very proud to represent our school and community,” she added. The event took place in the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, and was held live for the first time in two years after the pandemic restrictions were lifted. The awards have been held each year since 2006 and recognise achievement in areas including innovation, progress, ICT and environment. Ofsted inspectors said Salfords Primary School had an ‘inclusive and nurturing environment’ and the children said the best thing about their school was the teachers. It was rated Outstanding for attitudes and behaviour and for early years provision. “Behaviour in the school is exceptional. Children are highly motivated to learn. They understand and live by the school’s core values of kindness, respect, courage and excellence,” said the report. “One parent commented that their child was disappointed each Saturday when she realised it was not a school day,” it added. The awards ceremony was hosted by life coach and grief counsellor Jeff Brazier, a presenter in TalkRadio and BT Sport Score as well as an ambassador for the People’s Postcode Lottery.
