More than 2,000 people took part in free activities on Saturday and Sunday during our inaugural Dino Weekend. Dexter the T-Rex was a popular attraction on the Saturday, roaming the Vancouver Quarter with his handlers, but there was also fossil-making and mask workshops on Saturday morning.
Children also enjoyed meeting baby dinosaurs as well as recreating a dinosaur footprint and discovering more about the dinosaurs that ruled the skies by decorating their own Dino-glider on Saturday afternoon. Then on the Sunday, families enjoyed more dinosaur-related activities with a special dinosaur trail around the Vancouver Quarter, where children were rewarded for completing the trail with a goodie bag. There was also a special Jurassic-themed photo booth run by professional photographer Matthew Usher. Pictures will be available to download via our website for free this week. Susannah Rayner, events organiser, said: “It was the first time we’d organised this fun-packed Dino Weekend and we were delighted to see so many families head into the Vancouver Quarter to take part. The feedback we’ve had from parents from both days has been excellent – children absolutely loved it. “We will definitely be looking to grow this event and run it again next year and add another annual free family event for the town.”
