Cuddington pupils sign off for Christmas in Spanish style

​Pupils from Cuddington Croft School in Cheam will be looking forward to enjoying a feliz navidad after the term was rounded off by a traditional Christmas concert – including a carol in Spanish.

​Teacher Jo Garcia taught the Year Six pupils the seasonal song, called Campana sobre Campana, about bells ringing in Bethlehem. “The annual concert is something everyone associated with the school really looks forward to, and this year, in addition to all the usual Christmas favourites, we decided to try something new as well,” explained Cuddington’s assistant head Caroline Davis.

“As well as the usual choir singing we also had piano and guitar solo performances, but I think the Spanish carol stood out most because it was so unlike anything else on the programme, and people will really remember it.”

The concert rounded off a busy term at Cuddington Croft, a member of the GLF Schools multi-academy trust. Other highlights have included trips to the Science Museum, London Zoo, Brooklands aviation museum and a residential trip to Hindleap Warren in East Sussex.

But as they go off to enjoy their Christmas break, pupils have also been reminded of the importance of remembering those less fortunate than themselves.

“At the Christmas concert, we spoke about the school’s link-up with the local branch of the Salvation Army and their work helping children and families not lucky enough to enjoy the sort of Christmases that we do,” added Ms Davis.

“The response was great, and we have been able to donate a large amount of toys for distribution to local families in need, so it is wonderful to be able to go off for the holidays knowing that as a school we have made a real difference. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed.”
