Cordwalles passes Ofsted inspection with flying colours

Pupils at Cordwalles Junior School have all been enjoying that top of the class feeling recently after the school was graded as Good in all areas by its recent Ofsted inspection.

​The school was given the once-over by Ofsted at the start of the new term, and their verdict was a thumbs-up for all aspects of life at Cordwalles, with the official inspectors’ report describing it as ‘a beautiful school which encourages children to be the best they can be.’

Inspectors observed and spoke to children in all classes, examined their books and also spoke to representatives of the governing body, local authority and GLF Schools, who run Cordwalles, before delivering their positive verdict.

Aspects of academic life picked out for particular praise include the school leaders’ ‘high aspirations for pupils… setting challenging work that extends pupils’ learning’, the school’s ‘caring community’ and ‘calm and orderly atmosphere’ and the positive attitude of parents.

“We are delighted Ofsted have recognised the strength of our wonderful school community,” said Headteacher Claire-Louise West.

“We could not be more proud of our children and their wonderful achievements; it is fantastic to have their efforts and hard work recognised by Ofsted.”

The inspection was the first since 2013 when Cordwalles joined the GLF schools group, a Surrey-based multi-academy trust which runs more than 20 schools across the south east of England.

Shortly before Christmas, the school opened its brand new Phiz Lab science facility, built with the assistance of the Ogden Trust science educational charity.

“I am immensely grateful to our highly committed teachers and staff who work tirelessly, every day, to make Cordwalles Junior School to be the best that it can be,” added Ms West.

“The children and the community the school serves deserve nothing less”.
