One pupil, Marcus Roberts, achieved three top grade 9s and seven A*s - all the best results possible across the board.
Marcus, 16, achieved a clean sweep of the top grades and will be staying at Glyn School to study biology, chemistry, maths and Extended Project Qualifications. His achievement has put him among an elite percentage of GCSE students this year who were rewarded with across-the-board top marks. “I was a bit nervous coming in here to collect my results because I wasn’t sure how some of my exams had gone. I really didn’t think I was going to get all nine grades and A* though. It’s a complete surprised and I’m really happy now. It’s such a relief to finally have my results in my hands and to see how well I’m done. I knew I’d worked hard and I’m just glad it’s paid off.” He is staying in at Glyn to study biology, chemistry, maths and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) Elliot Hickson, 16, was awarded two grade 9s, one grade 8 and seven A* results and overall seven students received grade 9 awards. “I’m absolutely elated with my results. I was aiming for high grades but I didn’t expect to get these. I was expecting a few A* but with the new system, I wasn’t sure how many grade 9s I’d get, so I’m delighted to have got two. I’m staying here at Glyn to study chemistry, biology, Maths and history at A Level and then I hope to study psychology at Cambridge.” The total number of grade 9s for English was 15, with 22 in maths - equalling 6% and 9% of the cohort which is above the national average. And some 81% of students were awarded a grade C or above in both subjects. Phillip Wheatley is the outgoing Glyn headteacher and results day was his last official duty with the school. “I am delighted that our students achieved another fabulous set of GCSE results with 82% getting grade 4 to 9 in English and maths and 65% getting grade 5 plus. These results are testament to the relentless hard work, positivity and talent of our students and staff. “There are some incredible results in a whole range of subject areas and I would like to thank parents, staff and governors for all that their have done in making these results a reality.”
