Chestnut Park pupils take a healthy interest in nurse's visit

​Pupils at Chestnut have been learning valuable lessons about what goes on in the world of grown-ups during school time following a series of visitors from different professions, discussing their jobs.

​Youngsters have had a chance to hear from and ask questions to a variety of professionals, with one of those which generated most interest being from a nurse.

“She was wonderful with the children because she covered so much about so many different aspects of her work,” said Chestnut Park’s Early Years lead Annie Radley.

“She told us about what area the differences between the jobs of a doctor and a nurse, and about how they help deliver and look after babies, which the children were particularly interested in. She also explained about aspects of her job like working in hospital, conducting check-ups and told them about how instruments like stethoscopes work.”

It was another day of discovery for the pupils of Chestnut Park Primary, a new three-form entry primary school which was opened by the GLF Schools multi-academy trust in September 2015.

This term, the school moved to its new purpose-built premises on St James Road, equipped with the latest state of the art teaching and learning technology, including a learning deck on the roof.

“It was wonderful having a nurse come to visit, because the children were so fascinated by her job and all that goes with it,” added Miss Radley. “They listened to and absorbed everything she said, and I know they went home with plenty of new knowledge to share with their families, and from a teaching point of view, that’s exactly what you want from a day at school.”
