Students at The Beacon School in Banstead are celebrating superb A Level results. Evie MacKenzie achieved four A* Grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Extended Project Qualification and plans to study Biological and Medicinal Chemistry at Exeter University. She said “I am very glad that my grades represent the hard work I put in during such a challenging year; I feel very grateful for the support from my teachers all the way through the pandemic". Ivan Newsome, one of the Head Students at The Beacon, part of Glyn Learning Foundation, achieved an A in Geography, B in PE and a Distinction in Media. He said “it’s been a difficult year but I feel like our hard work has really paid off; I am going to Bath to study Sports Coaching and Management”.
Callum Bunt achieved an A* in Biology, A in Psychology and an A in PE and plans to go to Plymouth to study Physiotherapy. He said: “I am really pleased with my results; this year has been hard due to Covid and I am relieved it hasn’t negatively impacted my grades”. James Crawford achieved an A in Geography, B in Chemistry and a Distinction in Public Services. He plans to take a gap year before studying Geology and Physical Geography at Southampton. He said “I feel happy and relieved to have achieved these results given the circumstances; considering the lockdowns, Covid testing and isolation periods it is a huge relief.” Katie Cox achieved an A* in Law, an A in politics and a B in Biology, and is off to study Politics at Chichester University. She said: “I’m really pleased I got into the University of my choice." Abby Feely achieved an A* in Psychology, A in English Literature and Language and a B in History; she plans to study Psychology at Chichester. She said: “I am really relieved and proud that I have managed to get these grades after so many lockdowns” Georgie Barroll Brown (Head of Sixth Form) said: "We are so proud of the students’ achievements, particularly considering the challenging nature of the last academic year. We are delighted to see so many securing the universities and apprenticeships of their choice, due to their relentless hard work and determination.” Keith Batchelor (Headteacher) added: "Students and staff have shown such tenacity over the last year and a huge amount of hard work has gone into achieving a set of wonderful results of which we are immensely proud."
