There were celebrations at Glyn School today when students collected their A Level results after a ‘challenging’ time.

“The class of 2022 are a cohort nationally that has had more turbulence than any other. Not only did they not sit their GCSE public examinations in 2020, they also had a block of time remote learning in Year 12. Even with this disruption, our class of 2022 have achieved an exceptional set of results,” said head of school Jo Garrod.

“We are immensely proud of their resilience and determination to overcome an adverse time in their education journey and their dedication is second to none. I would like to congratulate each of our students on their exemplary examination results and wish them every success. The skills they have acquired stands them in good stead to excel in their next steps,” she added.

Glyn, a member of GLF Schools, saw 79.4 per cent of students achieved A* to C grades, and more than a quarter, 27 per cent, were awarded A* or A grades. A total of 58 per cent received A* to B grades.

Head boy Kye Slawson-Powell achieved two A*s and an A and will be reading psychology at Durham University, with the view to becoming a clinical psychologist.

“I was exceptionally nervous,” he said. “It was very nerve-wracking, as there’s such a lot of time between sitting the exams and actually getting the results.

“I’ve absolutely loved my time at Glyn. It’s been a long journey, and I’ve changed a lot, and grown a lot, and made lots of friends. It’s been great, and I wish all my peers the best for the future.”

Fellow student Neepha Radcox received two A*s and an A, and will be heading to the University of Birmingham to study psychology.

“I was shocked when I got my results,” she said. “I thought I’d messed up in law, as there was a question that hadn’t been listed. I knew I needed two As and a B, and I was really worried so it was amazing when I opened the envelope and saw I’d got an A!

“I’m really excited about going to Birmingham, as it blew me away when I visited. The campus is fantastic, and I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to go there.

“Glyn has been very supportive with the whole process of writing personal statements and university applications – they’re with you every step of the way. Although Year 12 was challenging because there were still Covid restrictions, Year 13 was really fun.”

Other high achievers at the school included Henry Price, who achieved three A*s and will be reading chemical engineering at Birmingham, Jack Buckley with two A*s and an A, who will study civil engineering at Imperial College London, and Leonard Lai (also two A*s and an A) who is off to read mathematics at Bristol.
