![]() Staff at a Banstead school were celebrating their students’ successes today - with many heading to university and one accepted to join Oxford - a first for the school. Students at The Beacon School, a member of the GLF Trust, were all applauded by staff for their resilience and determination after a difficult last couple of years with their education due to the pandemic. “We are incredibly proud of our students and it’s wonderful to see so many successes today. We applaud them for the determination, resilience and good humour they have shown throughout their studies,” said Ms Heather Fear, Head of Sixth Form.
“These results have fully prepared them for the next stages of their lives, whether it be university, apprenticeships or employment. We look forward to hearing about their successes in the next stages of their lives,” she added. There were three A*s for student Kayleigh, who is going to read chemistry at Oxford university. There were also three A*s and an A for her brother Ross who is heading to Leeds to read mechanical engineering. “I really wasn’t expecting to get the results I got,” said Kayleigh. “I’d worked hard, so I thought it would be OK, but I wasn’t sure I’d get my university offer. It’s a bit terrifying to be going to Oxford, but very exciting! “I’ve been very happy at The Beacon, and I’ve come all the way through the school from Year 7, which made today especially emotional. I’ve felt very well supported the whole way through.” Charlotte achieved three As and a B and will be reading physics at York University and three As were awarded to Fawzia who will read pharmacy at Brighton. “I am are so proud to have shared the successes of our students today after so many years of hard work from the staff and students themselves and especially after overcoming all of the challenges of the last two and half years. I am delighted that we have gained our first ever Oxford place and for all of our students who have gone on to gain the next steps that they have been aiming for," said Headteacher Keith Batchelor. There was also success for Mollie with two As and a B and she will be reading sociology at Bournemouth. Hannah will be reading film, television and digital production at Royal Holloway after an A* and Cdist in her results. BTEC students also achieved some excellent grades with plenty of them attaining distinctions and merits. Sonny had two Distinction * and a Distinction while Amy had three Merits. Harley achieved two Bs and a Distinction and is beginning an apprenticeship as a quantity surveyor.
