The first Rising Stars of the year have been chosen by a Norfolk home care company and both recipients have been with the firm for under a year. Sarah Gillett works out of the Heacham office of family-run Extra Hands, and has been a part of the company for ten months. But with five children, caring comes naturally to her and when her last two went to secondary school, she decided the time was right to find something outside the home to do.
“I really love what I do,” she said. “I was at home looking after the children but now I work in the Dersingham and Heacham area and really enjoy my job,” she said. Her husband Marlon is a baker for Sainsbury’s and as well as five children, Sarah has three grandchildren and one on the way. “It really surprised me, when I was phoned and told the news I was shocked,” she said. Originally from London, Sarah previously lived in Cambridgeshire before moving to King’s Lynn around 20 years ago. Frederic is based at the Broadland office in Horsham St Faith and has only been with the company for seven months, but he has made a great start to his new career. Originally from France, Frederic has previously been both an artist and a florist, and he came to Norfolk with his wife Jill, who is English. “I was very pleased and surprised when I was told about the award. It has only been a few months, it’s not as if I have been here for three or four years,” he said. “They said I deserve it, and I said thank you very much. I enjoy my work and like the people,” he added. Frederic said he and Jill came to England as he had always wanted to live here, and they thought they would have a better life in this country. He works across the north Norfolk area from Norwich to Sheringham and says he has been enjoying getting to know the different service users.
