Care agency launches new service for elderly in West Norfolk

People with dependent elderly relatives in King’s Lynn and West Norfolk are being offered an entirely new form of daily check-up service through one of Norfolk's leading home care providers.

The award-winning Extra Hands is the first in the county to offer a regular ‘well-being check service’, made on as many days of the week as people require.

Hazel Evans, Director, said the service being offered by the Heacham-based company would provide a new dimension to care of the elderly and other members of the community who may need support.

"Extra Hands' reputation as a care provider is built on reliability, trustworthiness and quality, and I believe our new visiting scheme will reinforce all of those aspects for both the people we care for and their friends and families," she said. The service has been designed specifically to help and support family members or neighbours who currently fulfil a caring function, but who may need to take a break for any period of time, or whose daily routines make regular visits inconvenient.

From the point of view of the people being visited, Mrs Evans said that knowing a regular, dependable professionally-trained Extra Hands staff member is coming to see them would provide reassurance and comfort.

In addition to the monitoring function, there is also the benefit of regular social interaction, which can so easily drop off for the elderly or isolated, and those who live alone.
What is different about Extra Hands’ new service, continued Mrs Evans, is the way it provides a degree of reassurance and security that others cannot equal.

"Our service guarantees not only to ensure that people are checked, but also that they are looked after, and provided with regular social interaction, which can make a huge difference to their lives," she explained. "The nominated person would be contacted straight away about any changes to the condition of their friend or relative, and electronic monitoring ensures no call will be missed.
