Aureus School students got a taste of university life when they visited Trinity College in Oxford. The group of 14 students, who are all in Years 8 and 9, took part in the trip through the Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme – an initiative linking state schools with universities to introduce state students to life in higher education. Those taking part had been selected through the More Able Programme, an initiative to identify the most able students at Aureus, a member of the multi-academy GLF schools.
The visitors toured Trinity College’s campus and grounds, viewing the student common room, lecture theatres, dining area, living accommodation, gardens and multi-faith spaces and having lunch at the college. They also attended three introductory lectures run by the Brilliant Club, which covered such topics as university life, study skills and memorisation techniques, and they met with three of Trinity’s student ambassadors, who spoke about their experiences at Oxford University. Aureus' Assistant Head, Amjad Ali, who accompanied the group, said: “The students loved being immersed in university life, loved the introduction of the Scholars Club, and enjoyed their day out. “These visits prove invaluable to inspiring students that certain institutions and accolades are not as far out of reach as they think.”
