The GLF Schools group is excited to announce that Oxfordshire County Council's schools admissions team has confirmed a new secondary school, Aureus School, will open in September 2017 on Candytuft Way in Harwell, as part of Didcot's Great Western Park development. The school, which will be run by the Surrey-based GLF multi-academy trust, will cater for children aged from 11 to 16 and is being built to have eight-form entry – 240 pupils in each year – with a maximum capacity of 1200 students.
It has already held its first open event for potential students and their families at Didcot Civic Hall, where head teacher Hannah Wilson outlined plans for the school and answered questions. “Oxfordshire County Council’s admissions team has confirmed that, with 188 totally preferences for Aureus’s 120 places, the school will be opening in September 2017, as planned,” said GLF spokesman David Blackmore. “We are delighted by how much interest there has already been, and we look forward to getting to know our students and their families during the summer term prior to the school opening next year.” Since its foundation in 2012, the GLF group has expanded to the point where it currently runs 20 schools across Surrey, Middlesex, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, with seven more in the process of joining.
