Reception children at Lime Tree School in Merstham were invited back into school after hours the other day – but there were no complaints from pupils or parents as they went on an after-dark adventure around the school grounds. As part of their learning topic ‘What happens when I fall asleep?’, the children and their parents went on a walk around the school, looking for nocturnal animals and specially created night time creations which had been displayed around the grounds.
“This is the reception’s first term at school, so everything is an adventure for them, but particularly something like this,” said one of the reception class teachers, Miss Bone. “The children saw the school in a whole new light – literally - and it was a fantastic way for them to share their learning with their families, which they did with great pride.” Lime Tree, which is the first primary academy in the Redhill and Reigate area, opened in September 2013 and is part of the GLF Schools multi-academy trust. It has been based on its purpose-built Battlebridge Lane site since the start of the year. “The children arrived back to school in their pyjamas and once they had shared their learning experiences with their families, they settled down with a drink of hot chocolate for a bed time story,” added Miss Bone.
