The annual event was the second Vancouver Quarter Business Challenge of 2017 and saw racers from five teams pit their skills over a short course in St Dominic’s Square near Sainsbury’s at 2pm.
The competition was tough and all the teams put on an egg-cellent show! But the winning team came from Wilko who took the crown after seeing off the challenge from Primark in the grand final. Design agency Studio 20a and Ward Gethin Archer came third and fourth respectively, with Boots completing the list of participating teams. “It was a good fun event and a very big thank-you goes to all who took part in the challenge. There was also quite a number of people watching and it is always nice to raise a smile,” said Vancouver Quarter marketing and events assistant David Blackmore. The business challenges started four years ago as a way for companies across the town to get out and meet other firms. The first event of 2017, a traditional pancake race, was held in February and won jointly by design agency Studio 20a and Hayes + Storr solicitors. The next challenge will be a beat-the-goalie competition in July and a mystery event in October. The business team with the most points after a variety of challenges will be crowned as Vancouver Quarter Business Challenge champions for the year. Currently Studio 20a top the table. “As a retailer it can be tough to get out during the day so these challenges offer the chance for a bit of light relief and for the businesses to talk to each other,” added David.
