It will be bon voyage for a group of Newcastle primary school children as they embark on a five-day trip to France ahead of half term. The 29 Year 5 and 6 pupils from St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust, will travel by coach to Paris, where they will spend four nights at a chateau just outside the French capital. During the visit, they will tour the city, taking in the iconic Eiffel Tower and enjoy a boat trip along the River Seine.
Other highlights of the trip will include an outing to the nearby town of Brie, where they will be able to put their French language skills to good use while visiting a traditional market, along with a trip to Disneyland. St Catherine’s head teacher, Lisa Hoey, who is one of the adults accompanying the group, said: “The children have been learning French since Year 3, so have some basic language skills. “The trip will give them the opportunity to use those skills, as well as the experience of a different culture and the independence of being away from home. For some of the children, it will also be their first time abroad. “Trips like this are important in helping children at St Catherine’s to have opportunities they might not otherwise have the chance to do outside of school.”
