Pupils and staff at a Cramlington school had two good reasons to celebrate this week when odd socks were the order of the day. St Peter and Paul’s Catholic Primary School has recently had a £750,000 makeover to create more space and pupils have been making the most of their new environment. There were ‘odd socks’ all over the place to highlight anti-bullying week which started on Monday, and pupils were more than happy to take part.
The school is a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust which funded the renovation work, creating a new entrance and offices, enabling space to be remodelled as new teaching and learning rooms, and creating a wellbeing room. “The work has made the school more welcoming and is a better use of space,” said Executive Head Teacher Charlotte Chapman. “The work was necessary, as the school needed updating. Children, parents and staff are delighted with the changes. The entrance is impressive! “The children have loved seeing updates to their school. They are amazed at how great it looks internally and externally. They are proud to attend such a great school where all stakeholders take pride in themselves, in their environment and in their work.” The official opening of the new premises was marked with Mass at St Paul’s Church, followed by a blessing of the school building by Bishop Stephen Wright, who joined the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle this year. Staff, children and members of the parish and community gathered to celebrate at the school, where they were joined by dignitaries. “Ss Peter and Paul’s is a vibrant community where parents and staff work together for the good of the children,” continued Mrs Chapman. “Pupils enjoy attending school regularly and work hard to reach their full potential. Staff are a fantastic team who are committed to the education of all our young people. “Key Stage 2 SATs results in July 2023 were above that of national averages in all areas, which demonstrates the excellent curriculum design, strong teaching, and the engagement in learning from our children. “The school has been on a journey of improvement, and the building reflects the excellent work that is taking place within the school.
