The delicate intracacies of a fairy garden were brought to life at the Vancouver Quarter’s first Saturday Club of 2017.
The free event, organised by Vancouver Quarter and run by the Fairyland Trust, saw young visitors create miniature gardens with wildflowers which could be taken home and planted in their gardens.
The folklore of the fairy flowers was explained during the 45-minute workshops held at 27 New Conduit Street, opposite Wilko, from 11am to 3pm.
“This is the perfect time of year to encourage and develop an interest in nature as there is an explosion of colours during the spring. It is important that children are taught about their environment so they become the adults protecting it,” said Vancouver Quarter manager Abbie Panks.
The Fairyland Trust is a Norfolk-based national conservation charity which gives children and their families the opportunity to experience the magic of the natural world.
It creates multi-sensory experiences using stories, folklore and the imaginations of the participants to engage the youngsters with wildlife, ecology and landscapes.
This Saturday Club followed our Step into Spring workshop. Our next Saturday Club will be a Maritime-themed workshop on May 20.
Next up is our egg and spoon races which will see businesses in King’s Lynn competing for this year’s crown on Tuesday (April 11) at 2pm. The three-legged racers will be negotiating a course on St Dominic’s Square, near Iceland and Sainsbury’s, to battle for the honours of top team.
Then on Thursday, April 13 there will be an Easter bonnets and baskets workshop with four sessions at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm. The baskets and bonnets will come in very useful for the Vancouver Quarter’s Easter Egg Trail on Saturday, April 15.
Fifteen giant Easter eggs, each displaying something unique, will be hidden around the town, and all families need to do is find them between 1pm and 5pm, mark them on the map provided and return it to the Vancouver Quarter for the chance to win £250 of shopping vouchers. Anyone who manages to correctly find 10 or more eggs will also receive an Easter treat.
There will be plenty of other free events in the Vancouver Quarter this year, including the return of our very popular Halloween event and Christmas Grotto.
