Young musicians wanted

Calling West Norfolk’s budding musicians – a King’s Lynn secondary school is hosting free, weekly musical ensembles for pupils up to the age of 12.

Springwood High School is launching the two new groups after the Easter break, with the first hour-long sessions taking place at the school on Wednesday, April 17, from 3.45pm.

Known for its broad musical offering and commitment to music, Springwood is part of the West Norfolk Academies Trust. 

Robin Norman, Director of Music at both Springwood and WNAT, explained: “As part of our ongoing commitment to make music available to all, Springwood is pleased to announce the formation of two new beginner music ensembles after Easter.

“Suitable for primary-aged children, and also those in Year 7 who are starting their musical journey, the groups will be aimed at those that have been playing for around a term to those of approximately Grade 2 standard.

“Each group will be led by two experienced, professional musician-teachers.”

The ‘Springing Strings’ ensemble is for violin, viola, cello and double bass players, while the ‘Masterblasters’ group is open to woodwind, brass and percussion musicians, including flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, cornet, horn, trombone, tuba and percussion instruments.

“All are welcome, from beginner to Grade 2, and any age up to 12, and there is no charge to attend,” continued Mr Norman. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to make music together.”
