Young rappers are hoping to hit the high notes and send shockwaves through the music industry with their self-penned track as it’s released via multiple platforms.
Members of the Rap Club at Chestnut Park School are looking to emulate the success of The Spark - a huge summer hit for a group of children in Ireland which racked-up millions of views on social media and was played countless times.

The Croydon students are looking for nothing less than global success themselves as they are also raising money for their school, and want to showcase their talents to the widest audience possible.

Having travelled to professional recording studios and put in hours of work and rehearsal, the track, Chestnut Park is in Our Hearts, was released last Monday and showcases the talent of the school’s Rap Club.

The school nurtures creative talent of all types, and the Rap Club has been a popular place for pupils to explore the genre and hone their skills while learning more about the art of making music.

The club encourages the children to develop their love of language and dynamic performance, and the song has been embraced by the school, a member of GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust.

“We are so excited that our track is now out there and available for everyone to listen to. It has been an incredible journey, and the children have worked very hard. They are dedicated and their creations have caught everyone’s attention,” said Kareem Myers, club leader.

The track was recorded at Crown Lane Studio which saw the young artists using hi-tech equipment to get the very best version of their rap. Including microphones at £1,000 a piece.

“The experience has not only inspired our students, but has also shown them the possibilities that come with both determination and creativity,” said club co-leader Aekino James.

The track  is a rap devoted to life at the school and includes lines referencing the importance of learning.

“You’d never be smart if it wasn’t for school,” gives a flavour of the content.

Pupil Alexandra said she was very shy on arriving at the club, but she is building-up her confidence.

“When we went to the recording studio, it was lots of fun and a really amazing experience,” she said.

Mia said she was also a bit nervous but the visit to the studio had been great’ “the microphones cost a thousand pounds each, so we had to be really careful when we were carrying them,” she said.

Platforms include:  Spotify, Amazon and Apple along with Deezer, Pandora, TIDAL, YouTube and 7digital.
