A collection of fantastic results are being celebrated at a Northumberland school where students have been praised for their success in this year's A Level and vocational exams. Among those receiving great news at St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy are twins Grace and Holly Pringle (18) who are heading for careers in healthcare after receiving top grades today.
Holly achieved three As in biology, chemistry and maths at A level while her sister has two distinctions and a merit in her vocational subjects leading towards a nursing degree. Both girls could end-up at the same University, Sunderland, as they have places, but Holly is considering whether or not to swap to Newcastle for her five year course to become a doctor while Grace studies her nursing degree Their proud mum Jenny works in a hospital, in a non-clinical role, and their dad Tony runs The Paint Shop in Ashington. “We are really proud. They have both worked really hard for this and they deserve their success. Both of them put in the effort and they were supported by the school. They are both caring kids and have helped to look after older family members over time,” said Tony. The girls said they would enjoy a celebratory meal with their family before heading out with friends. “We are hugely proud of our Year 13 results. Students worked extremely hard and showed great maturity and resilience throughout their time in school and have achieved fantastic results,” said Ryan Smailes, Assistant Headteacher at the school, a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust. A total of 71 students achieved 216 A Level and equivalent qualifications with an average grade of C+. Ten per cent of A Level students studying three subjects managed to achieve grades AAB and 39 per cent achieved an average of B or higher. “We are confident that the students will go on to have great success in a diverse range of fields.” added Mr Smailes. Among the top results was Lola Davis, A* AA and Madison Charlton, AAA along with Hollie Frame who achieved A* A and B. Holly Pringle had straight As across her three subjects of . . .and her twin sister Grace was a high achiever with her vocational subjects of. Sam Livingston received AAB for his A Levels and Emily Preston also had the AAB results.
