A Surrey school has retained its Outstanding status following an Ofsted inspection earlier this year. Staff and students at Rosebery School, Epsom, are celebrating the achievement which comes after the original Outstanding award was made in 2017. The recent report highlights the ‘exemplary education’ at the school where the teachers have ‘exceptionally strong’ subject knowledge and the curriculum is ‘expertly planned, meticulously sequenced and precisely implemented.’
“Pupils are proud members of the school community. They appreciate their similarities and celebrate their differences. They are proud of their achievements and aspirational for their future. All members of the school community behave in a way that upholds the values of the Rosebery Way. Pupils are happy and safe,” the report says. A strong careers programme ensures aspirations are ambitious and support in the sixth form is strong with all students having access to appropriate advice. They are also very well supported in their university applications. “It is a privilege to work at Rosebery each day because of the conduct, positivity, creativity and hard work of every member of our community. We are delighted that the unique qualities and strengths of our school have been recognised once again in such an exceptional report. “To have maintained our Outstanding grading under the new, more challenging Ofsted framework is particularly pleasing, and we extend our congratulations to all our students and staff who have played such a critical part in the realisation of this achievement,” said a statement from Head of School David Lach and Executive Headteacher Ros Allen. The inspection report also highlighted the conduct of the pupils, described as ‘calm and orderly’ while the students are polite, respectful, kind and considerate. Those with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well catered for at the school, a member of GLF Schools multi-academy trust. “Staff are determined to ensure that they achieve as well as their peers. They are known and encouraged. Extra-curricular talks, national competitions and university visits are actively pursued,” the report says. Exceptional support for pupil welfare is also singled-out by the inspectors, with the school’s Hive facility providing help across a range of concerns and also offers a wealth of information for parents. The school has 1,449 girls on its roll, including 221 in the sixth form, making it a larger than average-sized girls’ secondary. Students are aged from 11 to 18. “Procedures and practices, detailed in the behaviour policy, are meticulously followed. Attendance is very high so pupils benefit from the exemplary education provided. Pupils demonstrate a strong work ethic and arrive to their lessons punctually. They show considerable respect and support for their teachers and one another. Sixth-form students act as excellent role models,” the inspectors found.
