A carer from Pott Row has won an award for her work just nine months after starting her new profession. Susan Livick-Smith spent 25 years working in a bank at a job she didn’t really like and was determined to take a different path after early retirement. And the change has paid-off as she has won a Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award with her new company Extra Hands. “I’m a single mum so had to work, but I didn’t like working in the bank,” she said.
“I wanted to do something I would find rewarding and you really do make a difference. I am really enjoying it and love the job.” Her nomination for the award said: “Sue has empathy and compassion towards her clients. Sue is a colleague I would feel comfortable sharing any problems with and one we could all learn from. I believe she is deserving of this recognition.” Sue joined family-owned home care company Extra Hands last summer and works out of the company’s Heacham Office with service users across the area. “I cared for my parents and realised what a difference the carers made. I had always wanted to be a nurse, but never got there,” she said. Extra Hands has been running for more than 30 years and has its Broadland office at Horsham St Faith. The winner of the Broadland GEM was Kate Davis who made it a hat trick of awards with a third trophy. Nominations for the award can be made by service users, their families or members of staff at Extra Hands.
