A Wandsworth primary school is heading towards an ‘Outstanding’ grade from inspectors at Ofsted, according to a recent inspection. Floreat Wandsworth, a member of GLF Schools multi-academy trust, remains a ‘good’ school after a recent visit, but it could have been ‘outstanding’ if a full inspection was carried out, the report said when it was published this week. “Pupils at the school are safe, happy and they achieve well. Pupils work hard in lessons. They develop very good habits for learning, which start in the nursery and reception classes. The school’s strong focus on character values helps pupils to persevere with tricky work, as well as promoting kindness and consideration for others,” the report.
The inspection was ungraded (section 8) and the inspector said the next one will be a graded (section 5) report. “The evidence gathered suggests that the inspection grade might be outstanding if a graded inspection was carried out now,” the report says. The school has 297 pupils aged from two to 11-years-old, and headteacher Matthew Custance said everyone involved was delighted with the report. “We are all extremely proud of everything we do here at Floreat Wandsworth, and it is fantastic that the inspector recognised the consistent effort the team put in every day. This report is a credit to the whole school community, and we will continue to work together to provide the best education for all our children, ensuring they are supported, engaged and inspired in their learning. Thank you to all of our families for their continued support and encouragement,” he said. The school has ‘high expectations’ of pupils' behaviour and they listen to teachers and each other while lessons continue with no disruptions. “The school ensures that pupils develop beyond the academic subjects. There is a strong emphasis on character values such as bravery, honesty and service, which are promoted routinely throughout the school. Pupils learn about relationships and how to stay safe in an age-appropriate way,” the report says. There was also praise for the ‘rich and ambitious’ curriculum and recognition of the strong relationships families have with the school. The very-well attended family learning sessions illustrated the positive engagement from parents and carers. The inspection was the first since the school joined GLF in 2019, and has since expanded the nursery to include provisions for two-year-olds.
