A West Norfolk school’s sports squad is aiming to top the £25,000 fundraising mark when members take part in a 5k challenge later this year. Around 40 members of the Pink Ladies Hockey Squad will be putting their best feet forward for the very special Parkrun once again this summer.
The hockey squads at Marshland High School, West Walton, will be joining the 5k at King’s Lynn on Saturday, July 5 to continue the amazing fundraising efforts of the group which is looking to beat the £25,000 in total, from this year’s event. The Marshland Pink Ladies are running again to raise money for the Angles Theatre in Wisbech, which is close to the hearts of many pupils at the school who take lessons at the venue for craft and dance sessions. It is entirely run on a volunteer basis by the Wisbech Theatre Trust. “At a time where there’s lots of negativity about young people, this group is really trying to crack the stereotype. This will be the eighth year of the Pink Lady squads raising money for local good causes,” said Paul Swinburn, Head of PE at Marshland High School, which is a member of West Norfolk Academies Trust. “If we reach our target this year, we will have raised more than £25,000 for charities including Fenland Women’s Refuge, food banks, the theatre and to help pay for a rail card so a young lady recovering from leukaemia could travel around Europe. “We are very proud of all the pupils who have ever taken part, and you can see us run in the event. You can’t miss us, we will all be wearing our Pink Ladies hockey team strip,” he added. Mr Swinburn also said all the members, past and present, should be very proud of their achievements both on and off the hockey pitch.
