Lynn students support children’s charity in style

A Lynn secondary school celebrated the Season – and the end of term – in style when staff and students donned festive knitwear to raise money for Save the Children.

Christmas Jumper Day has become a regular fixture in the Springwood High School calendar, with the school raising £583 for the charity in 2022 and an even more impressive £619.48 last year.

“We hope to equal or better the value we raised in 2023,” said Rebecca Davies-Mays, Assistant Head and Head of Year 7 at Springwood, which is part of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.

“All students were invited to wear a Christmas jumper across all year groups, and all staff were invited to wear a Christmas jumper if they wished.”

As well as festive fashion, the day featured a Celebration Assembly for Years 9 to 11, while Years 7 and 8 enjoyed Christmas-themed games.

Since its launch in 2012, Christmas Jumper Day has raised more than £30 million for children in the UK and worldwide. Last year’s event saw 1.5 million pupils and teachers, and 27,000 workplaces, help to raise £3 million for the cause.

“Any fundraising for charity is important to Springwood,” added Mrs Davies-Mays. “It highlights to the students the importance of giving to those less fortunate than themselves.

“It reminds them of the importance of being kind and giving – key qualities that we foster in our Springwood students.”

Several other WNAT members also enjoyed Christmas Jumper Days, including Marshland High School in West Walton, Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, Clenchwarton Primary, and Walpole Cross Keys Primary.
