Lynn musicians help the homeless

Homeless people in Lynn have benefited from a generous donation from a community music group.

The West Norfolk Wind Orchestra used the occasion of their inaugural concert to  raise £250 for the Purfleet Trust, which supports homeless people across the region.

The group is part of the West Norfolk Academies Trust Community Music Initiative, and is led by Robin Norman, Director of Music at both WNAT and WNAT member Springwood High School.

“Each concert member of WNWO nominates charities for proceeds to be given to, and the members vote based on those nominations,” he explained. 

“On this occasion the members felt it appropriate to donate to the Purfleet Trust to assist with their valuable work in the West Norfolk community.

“The money will be used by the Purfleet Trust to aid with the great work they do in helping homeless people in the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk areas.”

The money came from ticket sales from the orchestra’s Festive Overture event at the end of last year, and Mr Norman presented the cheque to the charity at a recent rehearsal, ahead of the group’s next performance, which will support a different cause.

“At Springwood we consider ourselves to be part of the community in which we are based,” he added. “WNWO is a community group, and so it seems a natural fit for us to help local charities – to give something back to the charities based closer to home, here in West Norfolk.”

A Spring Serenade will take place at 2.30pm on Sunday 17 March in the Peter Hopkins Hall at Springwood, in aid of the King’s Lynn Night Shelter.
