A Newcastle primary school is now home to some Little Dragons who are making their presence felt. The new baby and toddler group offers a social occasion for families as well as for the children who have the chance to meet each other ahead of their formal start at St George’s Catholic Primary School, a member of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust.
“We have a wonderful range of resources which are set out in the hall and include a story area, construction zone, role play and jigsaws. The babies are free to crawl around and explore, we also offer healthy snacks. “There is also tea and coffee for the adults and new families are given a tour of our newly-renovated provision,” said Executive Headteacher Anne Bullerwell. The Little Dragons is aimed at children aged from birth to three-years-old, and the group also welcomes regular visitors from a range of health professionals who can offer help and advice. The group is hosted by the Lemington school’s Early Years Lead Christine Lawson. “We have a themed activity available during the sessions and have everything from hand and foot print pictures to making chalky firework pictures. The group is very welcoming and we look forward to seeing some new faces,” she said. The school’s recent Ofsted report, published in April, highlighted the ambition of the school to grow its family and forge further links with the wider community. “Pupils thrive at St George’s Primary School. They are happy and kept safe. The culture of the school is built on kindness,” it said. The report also highlighted the ‘rapid change of the last 18 months’ and said leaders, staff and children were all ‘extremely proud of their school.’ The main school buildings have been significantly improved and refurbished while a new building is designed for a state-of-the-art early years space which includes a forest school. Little Dragons Baby and Toddler Group is held on Wednesday mornings (term time) from 8:45am to 10:30am and no booking is needed. Parents, grandparents, carers, childminders, aunts and uncles are all invited to attend with a small person. The school is also gearing-up for Christmas with a non-uniform day on Friday (22) to raise funds for the seasonal tombola and a Christmas Family Fun Night is on the diary for December 3.
