High-achieving Year 11 students at a Fenham school were celebrating as an impressive two out of five were awarded top GCSE grades of 7, 8 and 9. Those achieving the highest grades at Sacred Heart Catholic High School rose from one in three in 2023, with threshold passes in English and maths also increasing at both strong and standard pass levels.
“We are so very proud of our GCSE students, who have achieved an amazing set of results this summer,” said Suzanne Howell, Headteacher at Sacred Heart, which is part of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust. Among the school’s high achievers were Winter McTimmons, Owabomate Membere, Anjelica Ojiako, Leah Regan, and Neve Bradley. “After some of the exams, I didn’t think I’d done well,” said Leah, who was awarded six Grade 9s, two 8s, and two 7s, and is returning to Sacred Heart Sixth Form to take A Levels in psychology, history, business, and philosophy and ethics, with a view to becoming a psychologist. “I’ve really enjoyed it at Sacred Heart. I really like the teachers, and the environment there.” “I’m really happy,” said Neve, who received six 9s, one 8, two 7s, and one 6. “I did a lot better than I’d expected. There were a couple of tears!” She will also attend Sacred Heart Sixth Form, where she will take A Levels in geography, art and religious studies, after which she hopes to study Law. “I’ve loved my time at Sacred Heart,” she continued. “The teachers have been a great help, and all the study sessions have really paid off.” “Our staff are delighted that the grades achieved reflect the work ethic and commitment of this excellent Year 11 group,” added Mrs Howell. “All their hard work has paid off, and we couldn’t be happier for them. “I would like to thank the great teaching and support staff who have helped all our students on their way to success. “Congratulations to all. We look forward to welcoming many of our girls back to Sacred Heart Sixth Form in September.”
