Glyn students celebrate exam success

There was a real cause for celebration at Glyn School today as students collected their GCSE results.

Despite interruptions to their studies due to the Covid pandemic, the Class of 2023 achieved solid results, winning praise from Jo Garrod, Head of School at Glyn, a member of the GLF Multi-Academies Trust.

“Our Year 11 cohort have achieved a set of results they should be proud of, despite battling a turbulent period of study due to the pandemic,” she said. 

“Not only have they had academic successes, they have also developed into well-rounded young citizens with a strong set of values.”

One student celebrating was Kishore Jayasankar, who attained eight grade 9s and two 8s, and will stay on at Glyn’s Sixth Form to study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

“I was pretty happy with my results,” he said. “I’d worked pretty hard, so it was good to see that all that hard work had paid off. Most of my friends have got the results they wanted too.”

Another high achiever was Lewis Ashforth, with five 9s and three 8s. 

“I was very pleased and quite relieved as well,” he said. “I was quite nervous with the anticipation because we heard stuff in the news about the grades this year being lower. But I got what I’d hoped, and what I needed.”

Lewis will now take Maths, Further Maths, and Physics A Levels at Glyn, with a view to studying Engineering at university.

“I’ve really enjoyed it at Glyn – it’s a great school,” he added. 

Among the school’s other top achievers were Arthur Melrose, with six 9s, three 8s and a 7; Ben Tregoning (6 9s, 4 8s); Marc Gilbert ( six 9s, three 8, one 7); Nasir Odeh (five 9s, three 8’s, one 7, one 6); and Alistair Nightingale, who received five grade 9s, two 8s, two 7s and a 6.

Mrs Garrod continued: “We wish our students all the very best for the next part of their academic journey and look forward to welcoming those continuing to our Sixth Form.”
