End-of-year fundraiser at Smithdon

Hunstanton students rounded off the end of term with a spot of festive fundraising when they took part in this year’s Christmas Jumper Day.

Staff also joined in the fun at Smithdon High School, where they were hoping to raise more than £200 for Save the Children’s annual appeal.

“All students and staff were invited to wear a Christmas jumper or some sort of Christmas accessory, such as tinsel or baubles,” said Sarah Robinson, Deputy Headteacher at the school, which is a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.

“We also had a celebration at the end of the day, with a fun, whole-school assembly, including games, singalong Christmas songs, and prizes for the best dressed,” she continued.

“Three staff also won prizes on ‘The Wheel of Rewards’, where the community had nominated members of staff they felt deserved recognition, and their names were put on the wheel as many times as they were nominated.”

Since its launch in 2012, Christmas Jumper Day has raised more than £30 million for children worldwide. In 2023, 1.5 million children and teachers, and 27,000 workplaces, helped to raise £3 million for the charity.

“All charity events are important for our school community, in part to support good causes, but also to educate our children on the world around them, and the importance of caring for one another,” added Mrs Robinson.

“At this time of year in particular, it is important to do something together as a whole community.”

Other WNAT schools holding Christmas Jumper Days included Clenchwarton Primary, Walpole Cross Keys Primary, Marshland High School, and Springwood High School.​
