De Stafford School has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted with inspectors recognising the Caterham school as offering a “welcoming environment for pupils” where “pupils are kept safe” and “behave well with each other and staff”. Inspectors praised the high educational standards the secondary school works towards for all our pupils and noted that “teachers work hard to support pupils”.
The inspectors also saw that “relationships between teachers and pupils are positive, leading to a productive atmosphere for learning in classrooms". The inspectors, who visited the school last month, added in their report that “pupils are well supported in learning to respect each other and to be ready for later life”, and specifically highlighted how de Stafford's “well-planned personal, social, health and economic education, coupled with relationships and sex education, sees pupils learn to treat each other with respect”. In addition, the report notes how the school, which is part of the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust, manages pupils’ behaviour well, carefully monitoring it and taking action where needed. The inspection report commended the mixed schools's well-planned curriculum, noting that learning is logically sequenced to develop pupils’ knowledge over time and Key Stage 3 provides a firm foundation, building on learning from primary school and setting pupils up for GCSEs. The inspectors also recognised that de Stafford's “teachers usually have strong expertise to teach their subjects”, often checking how well pupils have understood learning, giving extra support or explanation where needed. Head of School, Jeff Place, said he was very pleased the inspectors noted that “parents are very positive about the school’s work, saying in particular that communication with them is good.” He added: “We are delighted that our Ofsted visitors really got under the skin of the school and recognised the inclusive community we have where students are safe, happy, and taught well. "Whilst it is pleasing to receive the affirmation, this inspection reflects what happens in de Stafford School day-in-day-out. We are very proud of the journey we are on and committed to seeking to continually improve.”
