Top names from the world of cricket swapped their bats for clubs to take part in a special golf day which raised almost £4,000 to help students at more than 40 schools. The GLF Schools’ Foundation Fundraising and Awareness Golf day was hosted by Cuddington Golf Club in Surrey where county and national past and present cricketers Will Jacks, Rory Burns, Tom Lawes and Chris Tremlett were among players who teed-off. GLF Schools multi-academy trust, based in Surrey, has a charitable foundation to help students at any of its 42 schools to have exposure to opportunities and experiences regardless of their financial background.
“The inaugural event raised £3,954 and it all goes to the Foundation to fund opportunities for our students. Funding helps close the inequality gap and in turn enriches our schools and enhances academic standards,” said Foundation Head and former Surrey cricketer and Glyn School student Jak Martin. “We enjoyed a great day and would like to thank everyone who took part or donated prizes to help make the event really special,” he added. With around 3,000 students within the trust, almost 20 per cent are recognised as financially disadvantaged and they are the focus of the Foundation’s support across sport, music and the arts. A former GLF student, James Crossett, is a professional golfer and held a ‘beat the pro’ contest on the 16th hole of the course. Cricketer Rory Burns, who plays for Surrey and England, is an ambassador for the Foundation and he was joined by fellow cricketers and professional golfer Harry Pyett for the fundraiser which had a total of 45 participants. There was cricketing memorabilia among the raffle prizes, including a signed Rodney Marsh England debut photo and a variety of merchandise.
