Creative students came together to exhibit their work and celebrate the arts at Merstham Park School’s annual Arts Summer Celebration. The event featured an array of students’ art, photography, and design technology work, as well as drama, music and culinary offerings. Held for the first time in the school’s new premises, the evening began with a performance of ‘Goldilocks’ from Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, followed by an excerpt from the musical Blood Brothers, performed by a group of Year 10 students.
The broad array of creative work on display included art and photography from the school’s Year 11 GCSE cohort, along with drawings, paintings and photography from Year 10 and Key Stage 3, and design and 3D printing from the Design and Technology students. Catering students provided canapes for the event. Headteacher Andy Ward was on hand for the evening’s prize giving, where Roshni P won the Head of School Award for her “incredible work” and “embodying the school’s values”, with both Drama and Design Technology commending her. The event came to a close with a Brazilian Samba performance from Merstham Park’s Year 8 music students in the courtyard of the school, a member of the GLF Schools Multi-Academy Trust. “Merstham Park School came together as a community to celebrate the incredible hard work of our students within the creative arts,” said Mr Ward. “This is the first year that we have been able to exhibit work and celebrate the arts in our new building. “Not only did we celebrate the fantastic achievements of our Year 11s in Art and Photography, but also exhibited the work of our Year 10s and Key Stage 3 students, which included examples of drawings, paintings and photography. “The evening was a resounding success and would not have been possible without the hard work of all students involved, from displaying work to preparing food and putting on performances. This really was a celebration of how hardworking, talented and simply wonderful our students at Merstham Park School really are.”
